Unapologetic ambling

The case for the slow walk

“Come on.”
“OMG, you are so slow.”
“Why are you dawdling?”

You might expect to hear a parent say that to a child.

But no — that’s what this 44-year-old hears.

And honestly, I don’t mind.

The amble is an absolute pleasure.

To wander the streets, noticing things.
To let your attention drift.
To slip into a slightly wistful daydream as you make your way somewhere.

We spend so much of life rushing to the destination.

But what if the point, at least some of the time, is the getting there?

A slower pace lets the world seep in.

Amble, my friends.

Amble.
